The following text is for question
16 and 17
Dear Mr. Jenkins
I
am to complain about my recent holydays in Sydney which was organized by your
company. My wife and I selected a two-weeks Women Weekly tour starting on 29 December.
Your agency claimed we would be pick up at the airport and that the hotel was
three-star quality. The all-inclusive price we paid included breakfast and
dinner and two excursions.
On
arrival at the airport, there was no one to meet us. We were waiting for half
an hour and than had no choice except to take a taxi. This cost $30. The
receipt is enclosed.
The
hotel was not what I would consider three-star. The room was dirty: the beds
were small and uncomfortable. The breakfast portions were very small, and the
hotel refused to provide us with dinner. We had to spend some more $500 for
extra meals. Again I enclose our restaurant receipts.
I
found it dishonest and unacceptable that your company offered us a tour which
doesn’t resemble the descriptions; I expect to be compensated for all of my
extra expenses. The receipts encloses worth for a total of $530. In addition,
we claim a refund of $100 because the room was not up the promised standart.
We
expect real action to be done very soon.
Yours
sincerely
Mr.
imron

Biodiesel
is a clean burning substitute for petroleum based diesel fuel. Biodiesel is
made of vegetable oil.
To
make or manufacture Biodiesel, you must first start with raw materials. The raw
materials needed in the production of Biodiesel are a small amount of methanol
and a ready supply of vegetable product. One of the most common vegetables used
in the production of Biodiesel is corn, although depending on the geographic
location of the manufacturing facilitymany other plants are used as well
(rapeseed, soybeans, flaxseed, etc.). The first step is to use the raw
vegetable product to make vegetable oil. Vegetable oil by itself will not be
what you need to power a car, from here it has to be processed into Biodiesel.
The
process for converting vegetable oil into Biodiesel is sometimes called ester interchange.
To complete this process the vegetable oil has to be combined with a smaller
amount of methanol and then put in the presence of a small quantity of an
alkaline catalyst(for example, 5% to 1% sodium hydroxide). Vegetable oil is
made up of so-called triglycerides, which is a compound of the trivalent
alcohol glycerin with three fatty acids. The goal of ester interchange is to
separatethe glycerin molecule from the three fatty acids and replace it with
three methanol molecules. This process then yields roughly 90% Biodiesel and
10% of a glycerin byproduct. The glycerin byproduct can be used in a number of
other chemical processes for different industries.
26. What is the text about?

We all know that exercise is good for our bodies as well as
for our brain. Just like any other muscle, the brain can get inshape, be
strengthened and developed in use. We have understood how important exercises
for our body is, but we rarely think about the exersices which help us to
maintain our brain. These are some ways to maintain our valuable brain.
The
first simple thing we can do is don’t be isolated. Get involved in groups or
social organizations, and participate in stimulating conversation that
strengthens family and friendship. Make friends with people around us and get
benefits from the conversation we made.
Participating
in regular physical activities can also a good to maintain our brain. We can
just walk, ride a bicycle, dance, do aerobic exercises. Challenge your brain by
challenging your body. Then learning something new will help us to maintain our
brain. Try to take a class in something that interest you, read and write every
day, learn a second language, learn sign language, or learn to play a musical
instrument.
Playing
games is another good alternative. There are many games around us: on
magazines, in out cellphones, on television, in our computer, through internet
and many other gadgets. We may choose to play board games or brain
exersice-based videos games, do crossword puzzles or challenging word and
number games. In addition, some activities can help to maintain the brain such
as activities which stimulate the senses like travelling learning to relax with
music, meditating, and, doing yoga or tai chi.
The
food we eat also has great effect on our brain. For this reason, we should feed
our brain wisely. Eat more salmon, sardines, herring, walnuts and unsalted
nuts, increase your intake of vitamins C and E, fruits and vegetables, decrease
your intake of processed food and fast food; make it a priority to sit-down
with others for a least one meal a day. The last, don’t forget to get enough
sleep. A well-rested brain is a healthy brain.

Chronicles of Narnia book review : The Lion, The Witch &
the Wardrobe
By Brian Hobbs
While few people may have read all
seven books in C.S Lewis ‘ Chronicles of
Narnia, a vast majority are familiar with the second book in the series.
The Lion, the Witch & the
Wardrobe. What an interesting name to those who may not have heard it before. I
will not spend much time summarizing the plot of this fairy tale, which has
threads of Christian theology throughout. It tells the tale of four siblings –
Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy- who leave for the English countryside professor
and find a magic wardrobe during a game of hide and seek that leads the another
world, the world of Narnia.
Narnia is magical world, with fauns,
talking animals and centaurs and white witch holding the whole of the realm
under her dictatorship. The white witch, who represents Satan, tricks the young
boy Edmund into betraying his siblings and all of what is good in Narnia. In
the story, there is a lion named Aslan who comes to save Edmund – and all of
Narnia – from the clutches of the white witch.

Homeschooling
is a hot topic, with a great deal of opposing views. For those favoring
homeschooling, first anf foremost, homeschooling offers a great deal of
educational freedom. While the basics are certainly covered for all homeschool
students, the students have a great deal of freedom over what they specifically
learn and when. Next, Homeschooling offers a great deal physical freedom.
Without the strict schedule of school hours, homework and school trips,
families have much more freedom to vacation at odd times, and other such
activities. Additionally, homeschooling offers emotional freedom. In a
homeschool experience troubles with bullies, peer pressure, boredom and
competition. In a homeschool environment, these factors are eliminated.
Homeschooling also provides a sense of stability to families during difficult
times, whether it is illness moving, death or a new family member.
While
homeschooling can do a great deal of good, there are also a number of disadvantafges.
First, there are the time restraints. Whether you work, are single parent, or
simply choose a time-intensive schooling method, there is a great deal of
factors limiting the time available for homeschooling. Financial restraints are
another concern. The closeness of homeschooling may prove too much for some
families as parents often must spend a larger amount of time with their
children. Other disadvantages come from limited social interactions. For
example, team sports opportunities are limited for most homeschoolers,
especially teenagers who want to participate in competitive sports.
39.
Homeschooling is considered better in offering more affective welfare to
children as...
A. Familial
interaction creates closer relationships among home members
B. In learning,
time constraints are minimal, avoiding them from pressure
C. Homeschoolers
have a free choice to learn or not to learn something
D. Homeschooling
activities keep children emotional states stable
E. Homeschooled
children enjoy more learning materials
Study
groups are commonly utilizedby many students to prepare themselves for class
discussions, examinationsor class presentations. They can also make use of it
to review their weakpoints and learn new ideas. I my self find that we can
learn moreeffectively in a study group. However, I can’t deny that study groups
havealso some disadvantages.
On the positive side a studygroup
gives the students motivation to study and update their readingsbecause the
other members likely give them encouragement. It also helpsthem to learn new
ideas as well as important points they missed on theirreadings. Most of the
members in my study group are very open in sharingwhat they know. These alert
me that I should update my readings so I couldalso share something.
On the other hand, thedisadvantage
of a study group is the part of compelling the students toattend it after class
or during their free time. Commitment among eachmember is also an important
aspect in a study group. Hence the members of astudy group have to set aside
other activities to study together.
To join a study group or not isthe
student’s own choice, because there are other students who learn betterwhen
they do it on their own. If a student thinks he/she will be learningeffectively
in group, he/she had better go on and enjoy the fun way oflearning.
40.
From the text, we know that...
A. A study group
has nothing to do with reading ability
B. A study group
is always useful for everybody
C. The writer doesn’t
think a study group useful for him
D. An agreement
made to study regularly in a study group isn’t necessary
E. The members
have to sacrifice their time for their study group
41.
The disadvantage of study group is the part of compelling the students to
attend it. (paragraph 3)
The underlined word is closest in
meaning to...
A. Influencing
B. Suggesting
C. Forcing
D. Inviting
E. Persuading
This text for question 42
The
changes that our planet has undergone throughout its history are a result of
natural factors like tiny changes in the eart’s path around the Sun, volcanic
activity and fluctuations within the climate system. However, humans are having
an increasing influence on our climate by burning fossil fuels, cutting down
rainforests and farming livestock. What is the Greenhouse Effect? As the Sun’s
energy warms up the Earth, our planet radiates some of this heat back out
towards space. Certain gases in the atmosphere act like the glass in a
greenhouse, allowing the Sun’s energy in but preventing heat from escaping.
Some greenhouse gases, such as water vapor – the most abundant greenhouse gas –
are naturally present in the atmosphere; without them, thr Earth’ s average temperature
would be an unbearably cold - 18°C instead of the 15°C it is today. However,
human activities are realising immense additional amounts of greenhouse gases
into the atmosphere and this is enchancing the greenhouse effect.
42. What
is topic of the tex?
A. Relations between human activities and ‘ greenhouse effect ‘
B. ‘ Greenhouse effect ‘ as a natural phenomenon
C. Greenhouse gases and ‘ greenhouse effect ‘
D. Definition of ‘ greenhouse effect ‘
E. Causes of ‘ greenhouse effect ‘
